October 2020 E-News

We’re celebrating 100 reviews on Great Nonprofits! Once again, we’ve been recognized as a Top-Rated Nonprofit for the year. Most of our reviews come directly from the shelters and rescues we support, as well as from people we have served with our SNAP (Spay-Neuter Assistance) Program.

In 2020 the need for our services has skyrocketed. We continue to meet the rising demand, but we need to do more.

Just in the last month we…

  • Helped Indy Neighborhood Cats Trap-Neuter-Return a 20-cat colony
  • Fixed dogs at Speedway Animal Rescue with 10 donor-matched certificates.
  • Supported Columbus Animal Care Services as they TNR’d a 56 cat colony that saw several kittens find furever homes
  • Assisted Indiana families all across the state fix their pets through the Spay-Neuter Assistance Program.

With your help, we can save even more. Please donate today!

Pet Friendly Services in Action!

How We’re Making a Difference:

Welcome Home! Natasha’s Barn Cats

Six adorable cats lucked out on a new home!

Sometimes, the “return” of a Trap-Neuter-Return isn’t safe or practical for a free-roaming cat. That was the case for Tom, Jerry, Ben, Izzy, Claude and Rufus – recently trapped by our friends at Indy Neighborhood Cats. Lucky for them, Natasha had a barn in need of barn cats!

Under-socialized cats can thrive in a barn or a large property and make great outdoor pets for people with allergies. Even better, you’ll never find a mouse in that barn again!

The BEST way to get every shelter to zero-kill is by reducing intake at the source. Indiana Humane Services provides spay/neuter surgeries for TNR programs that save thousands of lives very year. Together we can make more cats live happy, healthy lives.

Tator: Saved Just In Time

Tator is another dog helped by Indiana Humane Services!

Tator was rescued by Speedway Animal Rescue after being found as a stray. Even though she was only a puppy, her lethargic state made it clear that something was wrong. She was rushed to the vet and diagnosed with parvovirus, which can be fatal.

Thanks to an early diagnosis and care, Tator made a full recovery! She is waiting to find her furever home with the help of her foster family.

When rescue groups receive spay/neuter certificates from Indiana Humane Services, they’re able to use their limited resources to focus on urgent health expenses and save more lives.

Memorials

In loving memory of Jenny Ikerd-Watters. Jenny was a lover of life and animals, always enjoying a great book, as she loved to read and learn. She died unexpectedly, leaving behind her son, Nathan Ikerd, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Ashack, both animal lovers as well, volunteering on the Hair Ball planning committee to help animals in need. Jenny will be dearly missed.
