Benefiting Both Cats & Dogs

Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana started a new program to help community cats in February 2014. This program gives free surgery certificates to 20 animal welfare organizations that Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Community Cats.

Community Cats are those that have been lost or abandoned. Some are feral (unsocialized) while others are simply free-roaming, friendly cats. Colony caretakers across the state provide food and shelter for the cats in their care.

By using TNR methods and returning cats to their originating neighborhoods, shelters are not overwhelmed with these cats. This means shelter staff can focus on adoptable cats and dogs, improving their likelihood of being adopted into permanent homes. Who knew dogs would benefit from a program for cats?
