Top 5 Ways to Help Animals in Indiana

If you’re reading this newsletter, chances are that you love animals and want to make a difference!
Cats and dogs are voiceless members of our community and rely on caring humans to advocate, protect, and support them – and there are so many ways to help! Read below for our Top 5 Ways to Help Indiana’s Pets.

If you like what you see about our lifesaving work – a donation today can save a life!

1. Spay/Neuter!

This one is a no-brainer! Spaying and neutering cats and dogs is the #1 way to prevent needless suffering. It addresses the root cause of pet overpopulation and reduces shelter intake. At Pet Friendly Services of Indiana, we provide FREE spay/neuter surgeries for shelters and rescues for adoptable pets, as well as $25 spay/neuter surgeries for pets of income-qualified families.

A single surgery can prevent dozens, if not hundreds, of unwanted litters. We recently reached our 180,000th surgery – that’s a LOT of lives saved!

2. Community Cat Programs

Programs that Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Community Cats are key to helping cats and dogs in our state. They slowly but surely reduce colony sizes, resulting in fewer cats entering shelters. This increases capacity for adoptable cats and dogs, resulting in less euthanasia.

Pet Friendly Services supports Community Cat Programs with FREE spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines for cats being TNR’d. In the past 5 years, we’ve fixed over 15,000 cats through TNR. That’s countless prevented litters!

Additionally, Pet Friendly Services has created a Community Cat Guide for Municipal Leaders to advocate for Community Cat Programs across the state.

3. Adopt From Shelters and Rescues

When you’re looking to add a new furry family member, adoption is the best option! Not only are you bringing a deserving animal into your home, you’re making more space available in a shelter for animals in need.

When you’re ready to adopt, we’re here to help. With more than 300 rescue groups and shelters across Indiana, it can seem like a daunting task.

Check out our Adoption Guide, which provides answers to common questions. You’ll also find a map & listing of our partner shelter & rescue groups that Pet Friendly Services supports.

Our shelter & rescue partners are working diligently to help every animal find a loving home. Your new best friend is right around the corner!

4. Expand Access to Veterinary Care

Many areas across Indiana have limited or no access to veterinary care, let alone spay/neuter. That’s where “The FIX is IN” comes in! This unique partnership with Public Vet is making an incredible impact around our state. By reaching these areas in their time of need, we’re bringing essential care and holding off the pet population at the same time.

5. Drive with the Pet Friendly Plate

The Pet Friendly Plate saves thousands of lives every year by funding spay/neuter surgeries across the state! Every penny we receive goes directly to Spay/Neuter surgeries. Show your commitment to animal welfare in Indiana by driving with the Pet Friendly Plate!

If you already have the Pet Friendly Plate – THANK YOU! You’re saving lives!
