Your June Pet Fix: Father’s Day, Adoption Events, and more ways to Save Lives!

This Father’s Day, Let’s Hear It for the Boys — Who’ve Been Neutered.

Supporters like you know spay/neuter saves lives—but did you know male pets are often left out of the equation?

We hear it all the time: “He’s not the one having the babies, so why neuter him?” The truth? Intact males contribute to thousands of unplanned litters, leaving shelters and rescues overwhelmed and overcapacity.

That’s why Pet Friendly Services works to ensure both male and female pets are fixed. Neutering reduces roaming, marking, and aggression—and most importantly, it helps end the cycle of pet overpopulation at its source.

This Father’s Day, help us spread the message: Smart pets get snipped!

Make a gift today to support low-cost spay/neuter programs and give every pet a better future!

Out & About: Where We've Been Lately!

It’s been a busy and exciting month for Pet Friendly Services as we’ve been out in the community, connecting with shelters, animal lovers, and partners all across Indiana. Here’s a look at where we’ve been spreading the word about spay/neuter!

  • Shelter Leaders Unite Conference – Our Development and Outreach Manager, Janet, attended this networking event hosted by Humane Fort Wayne, connecting with fellow animal advocates and learning new strategies to save lives.
  • Kokomo Shelter Networking Meetup – Janet also facilitated a shelter networking event in Kokomo, bringing together Kokomo Humane Society, Fulton County Animal Center, and Cass County Humane Society to strengthen collaboration across counties.
  •  Fix ‘Em 5K – Animal lovers laced up their shoes to support spay/neuter at this energetic race hosted by River City Races. Thanks to everyone who ran (and wagged) their way to the finish line!
  • Tails & Ales at Broad Ripple Brewpub – We spent the evening enjoying pints, pups, and kitties at Third Thursday in Broad Ripple. Thanks to the Brewpub for being wonderful hosts! There are more Tails & Ales to come! (See below)
  • Indy Pride’s Pet Pride – We had a blast celebrating love and inclusivity with pet lovers of all kinds at this colorful community event.

Fixed Pet Feature: Bruno

Bruno was found wandering the streets alone. Not willing to leave him to fend for himself, his new family took him in—but finances were tight. Through the Spay/Neuter Assistance Program, they were able to get Bruno fixed!

“He’s the most loving, caring animal you could ever meet. He’s full of energy, loves to play and have fun. He adores kids and provides emotional support for our family. We couldn’t afford a full-price surgery, so this helped us tremendously.”

Your support helps us fix pets like Bruno!

Indiana Veterinary Technician Association Endorses Feline Fix by Five!

The Indiana Veterinary Technician Association (IVTA) and the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) have both endorsed the Fix by Five initiative—encouraging pet owners to spay/neuter their kittens by five months of age.

Why so early? Kittens can become pregnant as young as four months old, and unaltered male cats contribute to the cycle, while also roaming, fighting, and spraying.

Early spay/neuter helps prevent unwanted litters, reduces shelter overcrowding, and supports a lifetime of better health for pets. Fixing by five is safe, smart, and strongly recommended by Indiana’s leading veterinary organizations.

What about dogs? Although not part of the “Feline Fix By Five” initiative, the same urgency applies to dogs: female dogs can become pregnant by five to six months of age, and neutering males can reduce behavioral issues like marking, humping, and roaming.
