As Indiana’s only statewide animal welfare organization, Pet Friendly Services continues to make meaningful progress toward ending pet overpopulation by focusing where it matters – prevention.
People often think shelters are where the animal welfare system begins. In reality, shelters are the last stop.
Every accidental litter creates more animals competing for the same limited number of homes. Rescue groups and shelters do incredible work, but they can’t solve overpopulation alone.
That’s why Pet Friendly Services invests where it has the greatest impact: preventing unwanted litters through affordable spay/neuter. The graphic below shows how animals move through the system:
Each crack represents animals falling through gaps in the system. The most effective place to stop that from happening isn’t at the bottom of the funnel. It’s at the top.

First-Ever Community Choice Awards Deliver $30,000 in Spay/Neuter Funding

The inaugural Pet Friendly Community Choice Awards, saw thousands of supporters vote for their favorite shelters, rescue groups, and community cat organizations.
Thanks to the Pet Friendly specialty license plate, $30,000 in spay/neuter funding was awarded to 20 organizations across four categories. These grants will help fund approximately 3,000 additional spay/neuter surgeries, preventing unwanted litters, reducing shelter overcrowding, and keeping more pets with the families who love them.

Training Vets to Save More Lives
Access to affordable spay/neuter depends on having skilled veterinary teams. This summer, Pet Friendly Services partnered with United Spay Alliance and Vanderburgh Humane Society to host a High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) Wet Lab in Evansville, where Indiana veterinarians received hands-on surgical training to improve efficiency, confidence, and patient care.
By investing in veterinary education, we’re helping clinics perform more high-quality spay/neuter surgeries, expand access to affordable care, and ensure more pets across Indiana receive the services they need.
Where we saved Lives so far in 2026
The Pet Friendly Plate Grant allows shelters and rescues to fix their animals at a reduced cost to make them ready for adoption.
The Community Cat Grant provides rescue groups and shelters with FREE surgery certificates for Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return programs for outdoor cats. These certificates include a rabies vaccination and mandatory eartip.

Catching up with The FIX is IN!
“The Fix is IN!” is on the road again in 2026, already fixing 5,096 cats! That’s over 5,000 cats who will not contribute to the growing number of unwanted litters in overcrowded shelters.
Pet Friendly Services continues to provide financial assistance to families and community cat caretakers who might otherwise struggle to afford these surgeries, stopping pet overpopulation at its source and creating healthier, more stable communities for people and pets alike.

Why the Pet Friendly Plate Matters
The Pet Friendly Plate is a lifeline for pets in need. Each plate provides $25 directly to Pet Friendly Services, funding free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs. Spaying and neutering is the only humane and cost-effective solution to preventing overpopulation, saving lives and alleviating suffering.
