Pet Friendly Services Announces Midyear Impact Report

Thousands of Indiana Pets Fixed, Countless Lives Saved by Strategic Spay/Neuter Programs

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Pet Friendly Services of Indiana has released its 2025 Midyear Impact Report, revealing that 6,505 cats and dogs were fixed in the first half of the year at an average cost of just $68 per surgery—a fraction of the cost it takes to shelter and rehome a single animal.

As Indiana’s only statewide nonprofit addressing pet overpopulation at the source, Pet Friendly Services is scaling up lifesaving efforts despite rising veterinary costs and a critical shortage of spay/neuter access across the state.

“Every spay or neuter surgery prevents unplanned litters and keeps animals out of crowded shelters,” said Cheri Storms, Executive Director of Pet Friendly Services. “We’re proud of our impact—but the need is urgent. We’re seeing more kittens, more litters, and more pressure on shelter systems than ever before. Spay/neuter remains our most powerful tool to stop suffering before it starts.”

In addition to supporting shelters and rescues through the Pet Friendly Plate Grant and Community Cat Grant programs, Pet Friendly Services has helped fix 8,123 cats through The FIX is IN! mobile clinic program this year alone—potentially preventing more than 20,000 unwanted kittens.

The report also highlights a major milestone for Indiana cats: both the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) and the Indiana Veterinary Technician Association (IVTA) have officially endorsed the Feline Fix by Five initiative, which encourages spay/neuter by five months of age. When pet owners realize this important fact, it is instrumental in preventing unwanted litters.

“We’re grateful to every person who donates, who drives with the Pet Friendly Plate, and who believes that Indiana’s cats and dogs deserve a chance,” Storms added. “Together, we can end pet overpopulation—one surgery at a time.”
