Indiana Shelters Desperately Need Veterinarians of Record
Across Indiana, animal shelters and rescues are facing an urgent challenge. They are caring for more pets than ever before—but without a Veterinarian of Record (VOR), many cannot legally or effectively treat the animals in their care.
A VOR is a licensed veterinarian who partners with a shelter or rescue to provide veterinary oversight. This includes establishing medical protocols, ensuring responsible use of medications, authorizing treatments, and guiding shelter staff in best practices. It’s not about taking on another full-time job—it’s about lending your professional expertise where it matters most.
For many organizations, securing a VOR is the difference between being able to serve animals in need or being forced to turn them away. Without your support, shelters struggle to provide even the most basic veterinary care, and countless pets risk going without help. With your involvement, those same animals can receive vaccinations, be spayed or neutered, and have the chance to find loving homes.
The time commitment is often modest, but the impact is enormous. By serving as a VOR, you amplify your veterinary oath—protecting animal health, preventing suffering, and supporting the people who are on the frontlines of animal rescue.
Pet Friendly Services of Indiana is here to help. We can match you with a shelter or rescue that urgently needs a VOR, ensuring your knowledge and skills make the greatest difference possible.

Spread the Word about Fix by Five!
Shelters across the country are full, yet most people don’t know the best time to spay/neuter their cat – or that kittens can have more kittens! The Feline Fix by Five campaign, a program of the United Spay Alliance, is working to change this.
You can help by spreading the word! Graphics and copy are available to share online or in print on our website.
