How Far Will People Go to Get Their Fix?

As reported by CNN, people addicted to opioids are going to new lengths to obtain the drug. Some have purposely injured their pet (or a stray) to obtain a prescription from a veterinary office. To ensure the drug is for the dog or cat, it’s recommended that vets:

1.  Determine the pet has an injury or condition that requires an opioid.

2.  Provide only a limited amount of the drug.

3.  Do not prescribe a refill.

The American Veterinary Medical Association warns vets to be wary of clients who ask for a drug by name or make excuses for losing a previously filled prescription.

Celebrating Our Veterans

As we celebrate the many veterans who have served our country, we also celebrate SNSI’s co-founder, Joyce Crowell. Joyce co-founded SNSI in 1977, pulling together a group of friends who formed the organization after responding to a pet owner’s plea for help.

The pet owner needed to have her dog spayed or face eviction from her apartment. SNSI helped her and learned that 42 additional pet owners had heard about the team’s work and were also in need of assistance.

Thank you, Joyce, for your service to the country and to Indiana!

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday has become an international day of giving! This year, Giving Tuesday falls on Nov. 27th. As we move into November, SNSI will ask for your support. It’s through your generous financial gifts that SNSI is able to reduce shelter euthanasia rates, host the statewide SNSI Indiana Animal Welfare Conference, and combat abuse and neglect.

Your support makes great things happen for Indiana’s animals!

Subaru Loves Pets

During the month of October, Tom Wood Subaru showed their love of pets by partnering with Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana! In addition to holding a month-long donation drive, Tom Wood Subaru also hosted a fun afternoon event!

The dealers hip, was filled with adoptable animals, and pet owners were encouraged to stop in for a free micro-chip, nail clip and vaccination. Outside the dealership, grills were fired up, as Tom Wood Subaru staff cooked for everyone – all free of charge!

Get the Training You Need

Animal abuse has no place in Indiana! Get the training you need to successfully identify and prosecute cruelty and animal fighting cases at the 8th National Animal Cruelty Prosecution Conference.

The conference will provide prosecutors, law enforcement and allied professionals with the skills to strengthen links between the criminal justice system and the community by protecting our most vulnerable victims.
