Midyear Impact Report: Thousands of lives saved (and counting!)

As Indiana’s only statewide animal welfare organization, Pet Friendly Services is making powerful strides in our mission to end pet overpopulation—and the first half of 2025 has been one of incredible impact.

Thanks to the continued generosity of supporters like you, we’ve fixed 6,505 cats and dogs so far this year at an average cost of just $68 per pet—a remarkably efficient investment when compared to the far greater costs of sheltering and rehoming.

It can cost hundreds of dollars to rehome a single pet in a shelter or rescue! Compared to the expense of initial vetting, housing, staff time, and on-going care, a single spay/neuter surgery is an incredible deal – even more so when compared to the cost of an entire litter!

Each spay or neuter surgery prevents unplanned litters, reduces the strain on shelters, and creates healthier, more stable communities for both animals and people.

Our mission isn’t just about animal welfare—it’s about helping people. It’s about preserving the bond between pets and their families, easing the emotional and financial stress of unplanned litters, and creating healthier, safer communities.  With your support, we can prevent suffering before it starts.

Love saving lives? We rely on YOU to keep our programs running. Your support makes our IMPACT possible!

Big News for Indiana’s Cats

We’re proud to share that two of Indiana’s most respected veterinary organizations—the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) and the Indiana Veterinary Technician Association (IVTA)—have officially endorsed the Feline Fix by Five initiative. This endorsement marks a major milestone in our efforts to prevent pet overpopulation at its root.

Fixing cats by five months of age is especially important because many cat owners simply don’t realize that kittens can get pregnant while they’re still kittens!

With the support of Indiana’s veterinary community, we’re working to ensure this vital message reaches every cat owner in the state. You can help—share the “Fix by Five” message with friends, family, and your local vet. Together, we can prevent countless unwanted litters and protect Indiana’s cats from entering an already-overburdened shelter system.

Your Support in Action: Comet

Comet Found the Right Person — And Changed a Life

Sometimes, it’s not just animals who need saving—sometimes, they’re the ones doing the rescuing.

Comet was pushed out of a car on a country road. No license plates. No collar. No microchip. No one ever came back. But someone did stop—a woman whose heart recognized a kindred spirit in the scared, scruffy dog staring back at her from the roadside.

That moment changed everything.

“He’s the most lovable dog you’ll ever meet,” she says. “He’s more kind-hearted than most humans. Even though he was abandoned, he still trusted me. He doesn’t judge or isolate—he just brings people together and spreads love, peace, and kisses to all.”

Comet didn’t just find a home—he found his person.

Because of supporters like you, we were able to help Comet get the care he needed to begin this new chapter—healthy, safe, and loved. Thank you for being part of stories like his.

The #1 way to reduce the burden on shelters is by reducing the intake of cats!

Catching up with The FIX is IN!

“The Fix is IN!” is rolling on in 2025, fixing 8,132 cats so far this year! That’s 8,132 cats that get to go home to warm beds and loving families — instead of adding to the growing number of unwanted litters in crowded shelters.

At a conservative estimate, fixing 8,123 cats will prevent 20,330 kittens! (Cat-math adds up FAST).

Thanks to special grant funding from the Joanie Bernard Foundation and the Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, a Keybank Trust, we’ve expanded our financial support to targeted areas of the state. This will allow for more clinics, more access to spay/neuter, and more fixed cats!

Pet Friendly Services provides financial assistance to families and colony caretakers who could not otherwise afford to fix their cats, helping to stop overpopulation at the source.

To see where The Fix is IN! will be next and to make an appointment, visit Public Vet’s website. More clinics will be listed soon!

YOU Make Saving Lives Possible

Pet Friendly Services is the only statewide non-profit that addresses pet overpopulation at the source! In spite of the vet shortage and increasing prices, our small team is getting them fixed!

Your support makes a meaningful difference to the lives of Indiana’s cats and dogs. By driving with a Pet Friendly Plate, you’re showing your love for animals and your commitment to addressing pet overpopulation at the source. Thank you!
