Rising Sun Veterinary Clinic Provides 50 Affordable Spay/Neuter Surgeries in One Day
On June 15, Rising Sun Veterinary Clinic helped address a critical need in Ohio County by hosting a high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter day for local pet owners.
With funding support from Pet Friendly Services of Indiana and the Ohio County Community Foundation, the clinic was able to offer surgeries for just $50 per pet while still covering its costs.
In a single day, Dr. Dave and his team fixed 10 dogs and 40 cats, giving dozens of pets essential preventive care. Pet owners expressed tremendous gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the nearest high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic is approximately 50 minutes away in Cincinnati. Having affordable services available through their trusted local veterinarian made a meaningful difference for families throughout Ohio County.

New: Indiana Veterinary License by Reciprocity
Indiana has introduced a new veterinary license by reciprocity pathway, making it easier for veterinarians licensed in another state to begin practicing in Indiana. Eligible applicants who have never held an Indiana veterinary license may qualify for this streamlined process by holding an active, discipline-free license in another jurisdiction, completing the online application, submitting license verification, and passing a criminal background check. Veterinarians who have previously held an Indiana license should continue to use the appropriate renewal or reinstatement process.

Be a Veterinary Mentor
Pet Friendly Services of Indiana is building a new statewide Mentorship Network Directory to help strengthen Indiana’s veterinary and animal welfare community through practical, experience-based guidance. We are currently seeking experienced professionals (particularly HQHVSN veterinarians, shelter medicine veterinarians, and shelter/rescue leaders) who are willing to share their knowledge with peers across the state.
Mentors set their own availability and areas of expertise, whether that’s surgical efficiency, shelter protocols, clinic workflow, outbreak management, leadership development, or program growth. The goal is simple: make real-world expertise more accessible so more organizations can improve efficiency and help more animals.
You do not need to have every answer. Mentorship is about sharing experiences, asking thoughtful questions, exploring new ideas, and helping one another continue to grow.
Help Clients Fix Their Cats by Five Months
Many pet owners do not realize how early kittens can become pregnant. A kitten may still look and act like a baby while already approaching reproductive age.
Indiana’s veterinary professionals and animal welfare organizations are already working at capacity. There simply are not enough veterinarians, shelter spaces, foster homes, or adopters to keep pace with the constant arrival of new litters.
Feline Fix by Five encourages cat owners to have their kittens spayed or neutered by five months of age, before they can reproduce.
Veterinarians are among the most trusted sources of information for pet owners. A clear recommendation during kitten visits can make the difference between a timely surgery and an unexpected pregnancy.
