Indiana Veterinary Technicians Association Endorses Feline “Fix by Five” Campaign for Cats

IVTA and IVMA Join Pet Friendly Services to Encourage Early Spay/Neuter of Kittens

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Two of Indiana’s leading veterinary organizations have endorsed a national campaign aimed at reducing unwanted litters and preventing pet overpopulation. The Indiana Veterinary Technicians Association (IVTA) and the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) have officially endorsed the Feline Fix by Five initiative to encourage cat owners to spay or neuter their pets by five months of age.

The campaign is rooted in a simple but urgent fact: kittens can become pregnant by five months of age. Yet, many cat owners wait too long—resulting in accidental litters that fill Indiana’s shelters and strain already limited rescue resources.

“We are proud to have the support of the IVTA and IVMA,” said Cheri Storms, Executive Director of Pet Friendly Services. “Veterinarians and veterinary technicians are on the front lines of animal care, and their ability to educate clients on this important topic will save lives.”

“The Fix by Five campaign aligns perfectly with our commitment to preventive care and animal welfare,” said Myranda Jennings, President of IVTA. “Encouraging cat owners to spay or neuter before five months of age helps prevent countless unintended litters and eases the strain on our already overwhelmed shelter system. The IVTA is proud to support this vital initiative alongside our veterinary colleagues.”
