February News: Why February Matter So Much For Animals

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month!

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, and around here, that’s kind of a bit deal! It also happens to be Valentine’s season, and unfixed pets can be very enthusiastic about celebrating.

Unfortunately, for dogs and cats, romance without responsibility can quickly turn into surprise litters. And that’s why spay and neuter matters so much.

Spay and neuter is the single most effective way to prevent suffering before it starts. Fewer surprise litters. Less strain on shelters. Healthier pets. Stronger communities. It’s the fix that makes everything better.

Thanks to your support, thousands of dogs and cats across Indiana received lifesaving spay/neuter surgeries last year. Each one meant fewer kittens and puppies born without homes, and more resources available for animals who truly need them.

This month is all about awareness and turning that knowledge into action. Whether you donate, share information, schedule a surgery, or proudly sport a Pet Friendly Plate, you’re helping stop pet overpopulation at the source. Thank you!

Did you miss our Valentine’s fundraiser (or.. did your order not last until the holiday once it was delivered?) Don’t worry! Our See’s Candy store is refreshed and ready with Easter and Spring-time themed goodies!

Why this fundraiser is so sweet:

  • Every purchase supports Pet Friendly Services of Indiana and funds vital programs.
  • See’s Candies are handmade with premium ingredients, lovingly packaged, and perfect for Valentine’s surprises.
  • No need to choose between thoughtful gifts and doing good — this year, you can do both!

Order now before the store closes on March 20!

Fixed Feature: Ginger & Daisy’s Story

Today we’re highlighting a story shared with us from our partners at Mercy Rescue &  Adoption.

Ginger and Daisy are sisters, and survivors. They began life as part of a community cat colony – living at a public trash and recycling center, navigating heavy equipment, harsh weather, and constant human activity. It was not a safe place for cats! Thanks to a large-scale Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) effort, their situation changed.

Through this project, 30 community cats were humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated, immediately stabilizing the colony and preventing countless future litters. Six of those surgeries were made possible using Pet Friendly Services’ community cat vouchers, helping ensure the work could move forward even when resources were limited.

Ginger and Daisy were among those trapped. During recovery, something remarkable happened. With time, patience, and care, both girls began to show trust and affection. It became clear they weren’t meant to return outdoors.

Because of spay/neuter and compassionate intervention, these sisters went from surviving among trash and debris to living their best life! Their story represents what prevention makes possible: healthier cats, fewer kittens, and better communities.

Ginger and Daisy are now available for adoption as a bonded pair.

Check out their Petfinder Profile.

Thank you for supporting the work that makes stories like this possible!

Building the Animal Welfare Thrift Trail

Let’s get thrifty AND help animals!

Indiana is home to some amazing thrift and resale stores that support shelters, rescues, and animal welfare programs. We need your help to map them all!

We’re building the Indiana Animal Welfare Thrift Trail, a statewide guide to places where you can shop, donate, and feel extra good about it.

Know a store we should add? Tell us by submitting it here:

You can see the full listing of stores (including addresses and donation guidelines) here.

Spay/Neuter isn’t just about the surgery – it’s about knowing WHEN.

For cats, that means fixing BY five months. Kittens can get pregnant shockingly young. Having them spayed or neutered by five months of age ensures they live longer, happier lives AND don’t have any ‘oops’ litters!

Are your cats already fixed? Please help by spreading the word!

The FIX is IN! is on the Move!

The FIX is IN! is on the move across Indiana – fixing cats at a great price! Support from Pet Friendly Services ensures that cost is never a barrier.

Surgeries are $100 OR LESS, with financial assistance available at every clinic. Clinics with a * have extra assistance thanks to Scooter the Neutered Cat.

Clinics out fast! If you or someone you know have a cat at home, there’s no better time than the present to make an appointment!

The Pet Friendly Plate is more than an accessory for your car.

It saves lives.

Every plate sold provides $25 directly to Pet Friendly Services, and 100% goes to spay/neuter surgeries. No overhead. Just lifesaving care that prevents suffering before it starts.

We frequently meet people who are shocked to learn they could be saving lives every time they drive. The Pet Friendly plate shows more than love for our own pets: it shows a deep commitment to Indiana animal welfare.

Do you already have a plate? Tell someone else about it.

The link below has quick and easy graphics and captions to share on social media, as well as a link to request a free marketing kit to help spread the word! We have post cards, brochures, and business-sized cards available
